It was minus 27 degrees in Umeå this morning. When I came downstairs this is the sight that greeted me. What you’re looking at is my front door – from the inside.
A problem with the door insulation means the super-chilled air is creeping in through a gap and freezing everything it touches – particularly my feet. If BrewDog ever need to brew any more Tactical Nuclear Penguin then they should forget about the ice-cream factory and make it in my kitchen.
It’s so cold that when I stepped outside to fetch the morning paper the snot in my nose froze instantly, clamping my nostrils together, making me look a bit like Michael Jackson after his 6th nose job.
All this makes the decision me and the missus made three months ago seem even more shrewd. Back in October we were given an opportunity to book a cheap holiday to my parents apartment in Tenerife and we took it.
So this afternoon, for the first time in 10 years, we’re handing our keys over to some house-sitters and leaving the Swedish winter behind and heading for the sun.
Now in terms of my blood circulation and tan this is fantastic news. The situation, however, is not so good concerning my beer intake. Tenerife is better known for it’s mojitos and tequila slammers than its beers and I suspect that sniffing out a decent example is going to be more challenging that trying to find a funny Russian stand-up comic.
But dear BeerSweden readers I’m going to try. In the next few days I’m going to track down as many beers in unlikely places as possible, and assuming they have some form of internet access on the island I’ll be uploading them here.
So please beer with me while normal service is interrupted and drop by to see what I’ve managed to get poured into my glass.
Hasta luego everyone!

Damn that is cold. Talked to some brittish friends and they said they had -5 and where complaining about the cold
Have fun in spain and have an un-funny spanish beer for me as well
Oh come on Darren its Spain not Timbucktoo, of course you have a connection!
And minus 5 is pretty dam cold when cold when you are not use to it.
