Why I Love Umeå – Reason 8

Some years back I made a list of 7 things I loved about  living in Umeå. You can read it here.

I think it’s about time I added another reason – there are never any queues at the Systembolaget for new beer releases.

That’s the good thing about Karlstad too. Weird that I still always go to Systembolaget a few minutes after 10 on the release day. But I need to be sure, last year when Dark Horizon 2nd Edition came out there was someone who bought 15 bottles or something…

That would be one of those beer nerds! You’ve got to be careful of them :)

You missed out on a few great brews there, like the Aecht Schlenkerla (spelling form my head, how close is that?) Ur-Bock which was/is one of the beers I was looking forward to the most. Gouden Carolus Blue is also nice if you have some patience and a few friends to help you finish a bottle.

Your spelling is spot on! I’ll no doubt pop back for a Ur-Bock as I think that will be the slowest selling beer here in Umeå. As for the Gouden Carolus I popped open a 2002 vintage as the last beer of 2006 to see the new year in. It was one of my best beers of either year! Still got a 2004 down in the basement somewhere……

    Four words Darren: Mitt-i-månaden-släpp
That’s why u live in one of Stockholm, Göteborg or Malmö and not anywhere else.

Christ, I did it! If you like the Märzen the Ur-Bock is a must, more meaty piggy goodness! I’m considering pouring some into my chili tonight, perfect stuff for a cold and rainy day like this.

Living in Stockholm, Göteborg or Malmö is great when it comes to systemet releases as you dont have to deal with orders etc, its really nice to just be able to walk in and grab as much as you want of everything. Malmö has a advantage of the other mentioned above though as there usually seem to be a way smaller crowd at the releases which means that you dont have to stand in a very long line and 98% of the time you can get whatever you want even if you come later the same day. Exept for when it comes to ”old whisky loving men kind of ales” like Innis & Gunn, Fullers Vintage Ale and other fancy packaged brews in a box..

The guys have a point about the middle of the month releases. However there is a way around it. Make sure that you have a relative in one of thoose towns and have them buy the beer and bring it to you. Well that’s the deal my dad has ;)

I have now read through most of your content. Got to say this is an interesting blog, I like the layout and the way you write. I’m definitely going to keep tabs on this one.
