Yes it’s that time again.
This month the money you’ve been stashing away for Christmas presents is in serious jeopardy as a slew of sensational beers are released in the morning – several of which are just too good to let slip by.
Lets break all the releases down, starting with the beers going on sale in around 30 of the larger Systembolaget stores:
I can’t honestly see where you can cut any corners with this lot. The Carnegie Special 175th Anniversary Porter is an absolute given. It was my first beer of this year’s Stockholm Beer and Whisky Festival and made one of the most lasting impressions on me. This ‘collab’ beer with Garrett Oliver and his team from Brooklyn Brewery is a fitting tribute to one of Sweden’s true beer classics and any serious beer enthusiast has got to try it. Must buy!
North Coast’s Grand Cru is another shoe-in, while Stone has given a Belgium twist to its Old Guardian Barley Wine by spiking a few barrels of it with their own Belgium yeast strain. Last time I tried the straight version it reminded me of Campari, so throw in some spicy Belgium phenols and you’ve got one hell of an interesting beer. Both recommended!
I’m a sucker for coffee flavours in my porters and stouts so I’m booking some fridge space for Nils Oscar’s Coffee Stout, which is laced with coffee from the single coffee estate of Gatsinga Farm in Rwanda. Recommended.
Now let’s take a look at the beers that are only going on sale at the posh stores in Malmö, Stockholm and Gothenburg:
Amager Drei von Dänen – 50 cl - 69,90 SEK
BrewDog Abstrakt 07 - 37,5 cl - 125,00 SEK
Brewdog Tokyo Black Horizon - 33 cl - 149,00 SEK
Cuvée Angélique – 75 cl - 76,00 SEK
Deus Brut des Flandres 2010 – 75 cl - 219,00 SEK
Framboise de Amorosa Lost Abbey - 37,5cl - 169,00 SEK
Gueuze Tilquin – 37,5 cl - 54,50 SEK
La Trappe Quadrupple Oak Aged – 37,5 cl – 100,00 SEK
Nut Birra Divina - 75 cl - 129,90 SEK
Saison Dupont Dry Hopping 2011 - 150 cl - 175,00 SEK
Again I’m struggling to find any weaknesses here. The two BrewDogs are, naturally, recommended (although if you can I’d hold on to the BTH for a year or more to allow the sugars to calm down a bit). The Deus Brut des Flandres is a beer I raved about on BSTV and will be the beer I’m popping open on the stroke of midnight to see in 2012.
Followers of BeerSweden will also know I go all weak-kneed at the very mention of Saison Dupont, so their dry-hopped offering is coming home with me. Remember only 500 bottles of this beer are produced every year.
Then there’s the Lost Abbey, and the Gueuze, and the Amager, and…….well, you get the idea.

I’m really looking forward to the Innis & Gunn Spiced Rum Finish. I & G’s limited/special/seasonal beers are scientifically proven to contain at least 178% of your daily recommended Awesome intake.
i have tried the innis and gunn spiced rum finish and for me its a big dissapointment
I think that everyone that wants to should try it, but Old Guardian Belgo was one of the worst beers I had this year. Really vile.
But dry hopped Saison Dupont!?!?! WOW.
